School Uniform

Wykeham Primary School has a smart uniform that offers many benefits:

• fosters a stronger sense of community and belonging as it creates a school identity.
• promotes equality and reduces peer pressure or bullying as it minimises disparities among pupils.
• simplifies morning routines and helps improve focus by removing the daily dilemma of choosing what to wear.
• enhances children’s safety by making it easier to identify pupils both within and outside the school grounds. 
• promotes a professional school environment which encourages discipline and respect. 
• cost effective as we only expect pupils to wear a limited clothing items with the school logo: a school jumper or cardigan and a school t-shirts for P.E. These are available from Rumbles, a local store. All other items of the school uniform can be purchased from
  Rumbles or relatively cheaply from major supermarkets.
     

Pupils are expected to wear the correct uniform at all times whilst on premises, when travelling to and from school and at out-of-school events or trips (unless specifically state). Parents/carers are expected to make sure their child has the correct uniform and to
ensure that every item is clean, clearly labelled and in good condition. Children must not wear jewellery, however small sleepers and studs are acceptable. Watches must be removed for P.E. and swimming lessons.

 
The school uniform is as follows:

• White shirt. This can be a long sleeved shirt, a short sleeved shirt or a polo shirt. Base layers are not allowed.
• Grey/black/navy trousers or skirt/pinafore (skirts must be of an appropriate length: minimum - just above knee length; maximum - just above ankle length. Leggings are not allowed.
• Wykeham Primary School jumper or cardigan. Hoodies are not allowed.
• Black/navy shoes or plain all black trainers with no visible logos or markings. Boots are not allowed.
• For the Summer term: blue/white checked dress/shorts or white short sleeve shirt with grey/black/navy shorts. Cycling shorts are not allowed.
• For children who wish to wear a hijab or headscarf, this must be plain white/black/grey or navy blue. Headscarves should not be too long in length:  maximum - no longer than the hip line. Parents/carers should support their child so that the headscarf is secure during the school day.
     

The school P.E. kit should only be worn on the day of P.E. The kit is as follows:

• Wykeham Primary School t-shirt or plain navy t-shirt. A navy base layer may be worn underneath the t-shirt if required during colder months.
• Plain black/navy blue shorts or plain black/navy tracksuit bottoms with no visible logos or markings. Cycling shorts are not allowed.
• Plimsolls for indoors lessons and trainers for outdoors.
    

 Swimming kit for Year 3 and year 4:

• Swimming trunks/jammers that cover from the upper thigh to the waist (not swimming shorts) or a one-piece swimming costume which has low drag in the water;
• Swimming hat for all children which can be purchased from School Office.
• Swimming socks if required for medical reasons.
• Towel.
